BicyclingBicycling

Portland gets a lot of attention for its bike-friendliness. And for good reason — add miles of well-marked bike lanes and paths, bridge and riverfront access, and extensive off-road trails in serene spots like Forest Park, and you’ve got a recipe for two-wheeled wonder. Fortunately, you don’t have to live here to roll like a local. Several top hotels have added cycling to their list of amenities, and will hook you up with a ride, safety gear, maps and more to help you savor the city, sans car.

The Ace Hotel

The Ace Hotel

In downtown Portland’s West End, the Ace Hotel is a stylish, casual place to stay. Already a darling of design mavens, the Ace set the cycling community abuzz when it unveiled a bike loaner program in 2009. The hotel’s partnership with Swobo bikes makes half a dozen of the company’s Otis models (fairly upscale rides) available gratis to overnight guests on a first-come, first-served basis.

Hotel Monaco

Hotel Monaco

Downtown’s elegant Hotel Monaco offers a “Car-less Vacation” package for travelers who want to visit without using a car. Upon arrival, guests who book the package will find both bicycle and walking maps in their rooms and bikes on-site. In addition to complimentary all-day bike rentals for two guests, the package includes a picnic lunch and reimbursement for those who use MAX light rail to get from Portland International Airport to the hotel.

Jupiter Hotel

Jupiter Hotel

The Jupiter, located on the east side of the Willamette River, is a hipster hangout with a musical streak. While the on-site Doug Fir Lounge offers a nonstop string of live music acts for night owls, the hotel’s “Ride Me” bikes give early birds a reason to chirp. Rentable on a first-come, first-served basis, the hotel’s blue-and-white bikes once served in the Paris Public Bike program.
