Portland Rose Festival
For more than a hundred years, the Grand Floral Parade has helped define the Portland Rose Festival as one of the world’s great celebrations. In this — the Rose Festival’s signature event — the larger-than-life, all-floral floats, high-stepping marching bands and elegant equestrian units entertain hundreds of thousands of spectators along downtown streets.
Naturally Speaking
Paddle your way through the serene Scappoose Bay , a beautiful wetlands/watershed area rich in cultural history and home to a variety of migratory birds, bank beaver, heron and eagles. The bay is a naturalist’s hideaway where few boats travel to rediscover its secluded waterway. This peaceful and calm getaway is centrally located north of downtown Portland and south of Astoria . Let Scappoose Bay Kayaking take you there.
Brewtopia
Portland is the beer capital of the world, with 23 breweries in the city limits – 34 if you consider the entire metro area. That’s more than any other city on Earth. From large to mid-size breweries like Bridgeport Brewing Company and Widmer Brothers Brewing Co. to smaller, unique producers like Hair of the Dog and Oregon’s first organic brewery– Portland is sure to have a brew that will make your mouth hoppy.
The Best of the City
Portland is compact, but it packs a punch, with lots of great attractions, shops and restaurants clustered in and around the central city. Easily walkable blocks and a comprehensive public transit system make reaching the city’s top sites a snap. And it’s just a short jaunt from the urbane offerings of downtown to up-and-coming eastside neighborhoods. Stroll from the world’s largest independent bookstore to a classical Chinese garden, and stop to smell the roses — and do a little tax-free shopping — along the way.
